Working Process

There's often a greater sense of energy and gesture in exploratory sketches that can be really hard to carry through to a finished image. It's something I struggle with, not tightening my images up so much that I strangle them.

A few friends have asked me in the past if I would be willing to put up more process shots or sketches, so here are some thumbnails and colour roughs for an environment piece I've been wanting to do. Hopefully the finished piece will follow soon after :)

Let me know in the comments if you have a favourite composition too. I already have two favourites that I just can't choose between...

More Plein Air Pics

These are more watercolor pieces I did while backpacking my way through Vietnam, Hong Kong and China. They are (in the order they appear):
First up, a quick sketch of the river near the base of Huangshan, Anhui, China;
the view from Peng Chau, Hong Kong;
a temple in the historic canal town of Tongli, near Shanghai, China,
and the "Outside Inn", near Yangshuo, Guilin, Southern China.

Hey guys,
The lovely lady and I are currently backpacking our way through Asia. I have been writing a lot, sketching some, and painting a tiny bit. Here is my favorite painting from Vietnam. Painted from the sun deck of the 'Opera' during our cruise in Halong Bay. Of course right after I blocked it in, the boat pulled anchor, but I carried on and finished it anyway :)
